Week #3 New Releases Playlist
Officially playlist # 3 of sick new songs that’ve come out this past week. This week it’s sorta indie, sorta alternative, sorta folk, sorta genresdon'tmeananything.
When compiling the playlist this week something that I found quite funny is quite a few of these artists were discovered organically.
@bleech_9.3 were discovered when I saw them do an incredibly sick and energetic opening set for shame in Cork. It was the perfect opening set in the sense that it was one that made a statement. Something that keys the audience into them as a band but doesn’t give off too much, edging the audience. And boy I was edged. Their most recent track “Cannonball” showcases Barry Quinlan’s haunting yearning I remember him for and I’m really excited to see what this group has in store.
It was in Cork at that SAME show when a friend I had made at the gig mentioned Cork’s own @cardinalsband_ . Their EP “Cardinals” was on constant rotation throughout the rest of my holiday in Ireland. This past week I got tickets to their upcoming show in LA in May which is one I’m really hyped for. The guys have a great sound that I’m sure live is massive.
@trumansinclairr is another fun discovery. This past year I saw him with his band Fat, Evil Children perform one of my favorite sets at Echo Park Rising. His most recent EP “Rivers of Sugar and Blood”, just released on the 23rd, is a sweet listen with swoonfully touching lyrics like in one of my favorites “dust to dust” where Sinclair sings,
I can see the spiraling vines in your mind
Waterfalls gushing the protest signs
I found out about @deaddadsclub after I saw Fontaines DC live and I discovered Chilli Jesson. The production on this album (done by Carlos from Fontaines) is electric and the record felt like a really good introduction to what the future has in store for this group. This album will hands down be one I’ll be listening to throughout the rest of the year.
Harry Styles is my GOAT. He’s an artist I’ve been obsessed with since 2012 and even at one point had a One Direction poster in my bedroom in middle school. I was ALWAYS a Harry boy (Niall was a close second). I saw him four times during his last tour and even have a tattoo dedicated to his sophomore album Fine Line, an album that I connected with greatly during the pandemic. So I was excited for the debut single of this next project. I had just gotten back from a run before the 4pm PST premiere turned on my radio to 102.7 and maybe it was the whole just getting back from a run thing or maybe it was because I was listening to it on the radio so the play button wasn’t in my hands but my heart fucking raced. I paced around while the dj’s primed the audience for this single that those at listening parties had described as sounding like everything from HS1 to brat. It in fact sounded nothing like those things. Like at all. Like I worry about the listening activities of the public when the only reference points are Charli XCX and another Harry Styles album. It’s a cool song. Is it something quite different than most of his stuff in his discography? Yeah. Is it quite different from most of the dance, house-pop, stuff out right now? I’m not sure. I’m still excited for Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally and even more excited for the upcoming tour. I have a feeling this shit is going to do insane numbers.
Arctic Monkeys. I mean it’s the fucking Arctic Monkeys.
I guess if something is learned, go to fucking gigs.
Cheers,
Dev
